The federal city of Bonn will host an international tennis event. The inaugural Bonn Open, will be held from August 4 to August 11, 2024, at the Bonner Tennis- und Hockeyverein as part of the ATP Challenger Tour. The tournament offers a total prize money of €75,000 and the champion will receive 75 ATP Ranking points.

This marks the first time Bonn will host an international ATP men’s tournament, making it one of the ten largest men’s tennis tournaments in Germany. “We are very pleased with the numerous sponsors and partners contributing to the success of the tournament’s premiere, and we are now working with full enthusiasm on the final plans and details,” said organizer and tournament director Lars Zimmermann during Thursday’s press conference on the 27th floor of the Design Offices in the heart of Bonn. “We focus on events off the court. In August, we want to celebrate an unforgettable tennis festival with tennis fans from Bonn and the surrounding area, and we have a clear goal of establishing the tournament in the long term.”

The press conference was attended by Dietloff von Arnim, President of the German Tennis Federation (DTB), and Katja Dörner, Mayor of Bonn. Dörner, who is the patron of the first edition of the Bonn Open, emphasized the impact of an international tennis tournament in the city: “I congratulate the organizer on hosting the international ATP Challenger tournament at the BTHV facility. We can look forward to an international sports event that offers great tennis and focuses on inclusion and sustainability. The tournament will be a special highlight in Bonn’s sports calendar this year and certainly a great event for the sports-loving population of Bonn. I wish all participants optimal competition conditions and much success, as well as the audience thrilling matches, unforgettable moments, and a sportingly fair tournament.”

Von Arnim also expressed his excitement about another top-tier tennis event in Germany: “The tournaments in Germany are very important for the German Tennis Federation to provide our own players with a stage in front of a home crowd. Additionally, our young talents have the opportunity to gain valuable international experience and world ranking points.”

Some players from the Top 100 are expected to participate in Bonn, according to Zimmermann: “For players ranked in this range, these tournaments are crucial to establish themselves in the Top 100 and secure direct entry into the Grand Slams.” The entry list for the inaugural Bonn Open will be announced on July 15th.
