BAD WALTERSDORF/STARNBERG, August 27, 2024

Kick-off for the unique tennis doubleheader in Bad Waltersdorf: Starting on September 13, Austria will take on Turkey in the Davis Cup World Group I tie, followed two days later by the Bad Waltersdorf Trophy ATP Challenger Tour 125 tournament. Seventeen days before the event, a media update was held at the exclusive players’ hotel, Spa Resort Styria in Bad Waltersdorf, featuring prominent figures.

Dr. Karlheinz Kornhäusl (Sports Councilor of Styria), Johann Fiedler (Mayor of Bad Waltersdorf), Jürgen Roth (ÖTV Vice President), Jürgen Melzer (ÖTV Sports Director and Austria’s Davis Cup Captain), Barbara Muhr (President of the Styrian Tennis Federation), Wolfgang Wachmann (Managing Director of Inspeira), Sascha Freitag (Organizing Committee BAD WALTERSDORF TROPHY), and Peter Westner (Tournament Director Bad Waltersdorf Trophy) were all present to address the numerous media representatives on Tuesday.

Just as impressive as the panel was the player acceptance list for the ATP Challenger clay-court event in Bad Waltersdorf, released the previous day.

“With Seyboth Wild, Monteiro, Coria, Munar, and Altmaier, we have five current Top 100 players confirmed, along with Kitzbühel participant Laslo Djere. The Serbian was seeded No. 8 in Kitzbühel, and he’s seeded No. 6 here. And just yesterday, Djere defeated World No. 35 Jan-Lennard Struff in a five-set match at the US Open. These are top-tier players coming to Bad Waltersdorf in Styria,” said Tournament Director Westner.
