Sweden Sweeps Past India In Davis Cup World Group I

STOCKHOLM, September 15, 2024

Sweden defeated India in the Davis Cup 2024 World Group I tie, played on the indoor hard courts of the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm over the weekend.

Sweden’s top-ranked player for the tie, World No. 238 Elias Ymer, led the home team to victory with wins over N Sriram Balaji on the opening day and Siddharth Vishwakarma on Sunday.

In doubles, the Indian pair of Ramkumar Ramanathan and Balaji fell 6-3, 6-4 to Sweden’s Filip Bergevi and Andre Goransson, giving the hosts an insurmountable 3-0 lead.

On Saturday, Balaji lost to Ymer 6-4, 6-2 in the opener, while Ramanathan, India’s No. 1 singles player, was defeated by Leo Borg, son of tennis legend Bjorn Borg, 6-3, 6-4 in the second match.

Sweden will compete in the 2025 Davis Cup Qualifiers. India will play in the 2025 World Group I Play-offs.
