In the first set, top seed Coria displayed outstanding form, breaking Comesana’s serve twice to take the set 6-1. “My first set was very poor. I was tense and began to feel mentally exhausted,” admitted Comesana during the press conference.
The second set was much closer, with the Mar del Plata native breaking Coria’s serve in the sixth game. However, Coria managed to recover and even served for the match at 6-5, but Comesana pushed it to a tiebreak. There, under the guidance of coach Sebastian Gutierrez, Comesana saved two match points to force a decisive third set.
In the final set, Comesana capitalized on his momentum, breaking Coria’s serve in the sixth game and eventually securing the set 6-4. With this victory, the World No. 104 will re-enter the Top 100 of the ATP Rankings. “When I found out that the final would be on my birthday, I dreamed of playing it. I’ve never experienced anything like this. Every match in this tournament was tough, and luckily, I managed to give myself this little gift after all the hard work,” he said.
By winning his sixth ATP Challenger Tour career title, his second of the season after the Oeiras Open in Portugal in April, Comesana earned $11,200 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points.
