CURITIBA/STARNBERG, October 18, 2024
Brazilian Pedro Sakamoto has received the first wild card for the main draw of the Copa Internacional de Tênis de Curitiba, the second largest tennis tournament in Brazil, after the Rio Open. This ATP Challenger 100 event offers a total prize purse of $133,000 and awards 100 ATP Ranking points to the winner.
Tournament director Danilo Marcelino explained the decision, stating, “Sakamoto won our ITF World Tennis Tour event in Sao Paulo, has always supported our tournaments, and has been performing well on the circuit, deserving this wildcard.”
Sakamoto stated: “I thank the organization and Instituto Sports for rewarding me with an entry into such a competitive draw. We work hard, and sometimes it’s tough to get into tournaments, so this is an opportunity to perform at home.”
The tournament begins this Sunday at the Graciosa Country Club, with the qualifying rounds that will fill six additional spots in the main draw. The main draw already features two Top 100 players, Argentina’s Federico Coria and Francisco Comesana, as well as Brazilian players Felipe Meligeni Alves and Gustavo Heide.
Admission is free for spectators, with tickets available starting from 10 AM the day before each match.
