STUTTGART, June 12, 2016

The 38th final of the Mercedes Cup between Dominic Thiem and Philipp Kohlschreiber was eventually cancelled after a rain interrupted Sunday. The match will resume on Monday morning with the German leading 3-2 in the tie-break of the opening set.

Two games were played before rain forced the players to return to the locker rooms for the first time. It followed a delay of four hours with play resuming at 6:45 pm local time. The set went into the tie-break and was suspended again at 2-2. One more point was played after that, when Kohlschreiber slipped at his return and obviuosly didn’t want to continue, as further raindrops fell down.

The organizers eventually announced at 8:20 pm, that the match has been cancelled after only 50 minutes of play.

Play resumes on Monday at 10:30 am. There will be free entrance for the spectators.

Meanwhile on Mercedes Court, Marcus Daniell and Artem Sitak captured their second team title, winning 6-7, 6-4, 10-8 over Oliver Marach and Fabrice Martin in one hour and 40 minutes.

“It’s an awesome feeling, especially winning it on grass courts. I said I was going to be back, and now I’m back and won it again. Stuttgart is my home, I guess!

“It’s not easy when you go on court, go off court. You gotta stay focused on the match. And at the same time, you have to relax a little bit, not be totally tight,” told Sitak.
