Ahead of the first serve at the 45th edition of the National German Tennis Championships, which will be held from 12 to 18 December in Biberach, the President of the Württemberg Tennis Federation Ulrich Lange and Tournament Director Rolf Schmid officially presented the tournament’s acceptance lists. “We can be absolutely satisfied with the line-up. The field is outstanding,” Lange and Schmid told.
Entry list women
Hamburg’s Carina Witthöft leads the women’s list in order to try to claim her first National Championships title after she had finished runner-up two times in the last three years. With this tournament Stuttgart native Michael Berrer will end his professional career. However, Witthöft and Berrer will face hard competition, as in both competitions interesting matches are expected.
“I am looking forward to the German Championships, because it will be my last tournament as a pro,” said Michael Berrer and added:
“After I had started playing tennis in Württemberg, I was a member of the local squad for many years and I have celebrated my first successes in Biberach. I think that it will be the perfect ending and a good farewell.”

Berrer has been part of the tennis tour for 17 years and reached a career high World No. 42 ranking in 2010. He captured 11 ATP Challenger singles titles, his last in Leon earlier this season, and lifted one trophy on the ITF Pro Circuit.
“I’ve had a great time, but eventually I have to put an end to my career,” Germany’s former Davis Cup player explained. Berrer is married and father of two girls (four and two years old) and wants to stay involved with the tennis sport.
“Thanks to my good network and experience in professional sports, I am sure that I can move things ahead in the marketing.” Berrer wants to win his first National title. He finished runner-up to Jan-Lennard Struff in 2012. “I expect strong competition, so I have to give everything to maybe end my career with a final victory and the title. No matter how it ends, I’m looking forward to the championships.”
