Jack Sock took his second title of the season, winning Sunday’s final of the Delray Beach Open without hitting a single ball, as top seeded Canadian Milos Raonic was forced to withdraw from the title match due to a hamstring tear in his right leg.

The 24-year-old from the United States didn’t drop a set in Florida this week. Sock improves to 11-1 this season and is projected to move to a career-high No. 18 in the Emirates ATP Rankings on Monday. Earlier the year, the third favourite clinched the title at the ASB Classic in Auckland.

“It’s very unfortunate for him and I hope he has a speedy recovery. We’ve had a lot of good battles and I was looking forward to the challenge,” said Sock. “I’d be a little more excited and full of energy if I had gone out and won it on court, but on the flip side, a title is a title.”

He takes away $90,605 in prize money as well as 250 ATP Ranking points.

Raonic was seeking his first ATP World Tour title of 2017.

“It’s disappointing in a lot of ways. I’ve been unfortunate with injuries and have been doing everything I can to prevent them. It’s been three tournaments in a row where I’ve sustained some sort of muscle damage. And it’s disappointing for the sole fact that you’re one match away from a title. It’s not easy to accept,” Raonic explained.

Klaasen/Ram Celebrate Doubles Title

Raven Klaasen from South African and US-American Rajeev Ram clinched the doubles title, winnning 7-5, 7-5 against Treat Huey and Max Mirnyi. The encounter lasted one hour and 30 minutes. They  picked up their fourth ATP World Tour doubles title as a team and first of 2017.

“I think Rajeev and I have done some good things to improve our games and this week was another progression for us as a team. The crowd has been great all week. People really enjoy their doubles here and that makes it us fun for us,” Klaasen told.

“I think the conditions here suit my game pretty well. For whatever reason, I’ve played some of my better tennis here and that carried into this week. We played four decent matches against some good teams,” Ram added.
