HAMBURG, May 24, 2017

The German Tennis Federation (DTB) will continue to support its right to use the stadium at the tennis center Am Rothenbaum in Hamburg. This was announced on Wednesday.

Possible construction plans for the venue would only be feasible if all the interests of the DTB were maintained at the same time. According to the plans published so far, however, this has not been the case. Therefore, the DTB, which is also headquartered at the Hallerstreet in Hamburg, speaks of a long-term use of the stadium as well as of the offices located there.

“The DTB has the right to use the stadium in Hamburg until 2049. This is essential for the infrastructural requirement to execute the ATP 500 tournament here,” DTB president Ulrich Klaus stated.

The German Open, established in 1892, takes place in July and is currently organized by Hamburg Sports & Entertainment GmbH with tournament director Michael Stich. The contract will terminate in 2018 ahead of the restructuring in the ATP calendar scheduled for 2019.

“We are planning to continue with the tournament in Hamburg beyond 2018. We still have to decide who is going to organize the tournament from 2019 onwards. We are in confidential talks with different interested parties as well as the current organizer,” Klaus told.
