Tommy Haas said goodbye to Wimbledon as a professional tennis player and celebrated a farewell party after losing his opening match against Belgian Ruben Bemelmans. The 39-year-old German, who was awarded wildcard into the grass-court major, achieved his best result at SW 19 in 2009 when he fell to the eventual champion Roger Federer in the semi-finals.

A lot of prominent faces from the world of tennis attended the party at the „e|motion“-house in London like Rafael’s uncle Toni Nadal, Tony Godsick, manager of Roger Federer, as well as Haas’ manager Edwin Weindorfer.

“It was a special honor for me to be able to start again this year at Wimbledon. I also am pleased that many friends and acquaintances have come to my farewell party,” said Haas, whose “guests” included his wife Sara Foster and her father, the music producer and 16-time Grammy winner David Foster, as well as Herwig Straka, tournament director of the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna. In October 2013, Haas won his 15th and so far last ATP World Tour title in Austria’s capital.

Edwin Weindorfer also used the evening in his role as tournament director of the MercedesCup in order to hold talks regarding the next edition of the ATP 250 event, which takes place in Stuttgart from June 9 to 17, 2018.

“As we did in the past, we are very confident that we will be able to offer an attractive line-up to Stuttgart’s tennis fans in the coming year,” explained Weindorfer.
