Elias Ymer dominated Sunday’s singles final of the €64,000 Acqua Dolomia Tennis Cup beating fourth seed Roberto Carballés-Baena of Spain 6-2, 6-3 at the Eurosporting Complex in Cordenons.
In front of packed stands, Ymer set the tone early, dictating most of the rallies from the baseline. The 24-year-old from Tenerife needed 27 minutes to get on the scoreboard in the sixth game. The #NextGenATP player from Sweden won 75 per cent of his powerful first serves and broke his opponent four times to secure victory after one hour and 20 minutes.

Ymer captured his third ATP Challenger title following his triumphs in Caltanissetta and Barletta in the last two years. “Italy and Eli is a good combination,” he joked during the trophy ceremony. The 21-year-old returned to Cordenons for the third time.
“The first time I played here, it was raining all the time. I just stayed in the hotel room but I really like it here. I have a lot of nice memories of the tournament,” told Ymer, who competed in the Internazionali del Friuli Venezia Giulia for the first time by the age of 17.
“It is positive feeling today, as I really played well. I knew it was going to be tough but I was feeling the ball unbelievable today. It was my best of our six matches against Roberto.”
First Title With New Coach
Ymer has recently joined forces with former World No. 4 Robin Söderling, who attended the matches until the semi-finals, but then had to leave for the US Open.
“I was really working hard lately, but we started our partnership only three weeks ago. Nonetheless, it brought me confidence to have somebody like him in my corner. He believes in me and really raised my level of game. He makes me a better tennis player every day, that’s the main thing we are working on. I hope that we can continue and I am happy that we gained a good result. It’s really nice.”
Ymer, who takes away €9,200 in prize money as well as 90 ATP ranking points, and Carballés-Baena will both travel to Manerbio next, competing in the €43,000 ATP Challenger event.
