After four weeks on the ATP Challenger Tour, Pedro Martínez Portero has returned to the ITF Pro Circuit by clinching the singles title of the $25,000 LXIX Torneo Internacional RDT de la Magdalena, held on clay in Santander.
The tournament’s top seed defeated fellow Spaniard and third favourite Marc Giner in Saturday’s final 6-3, 6-2. Martínez Portero capitalized on five of his six break point chances and won 63 of the 108 total points played to secure victory in one hour and 21 minutes.
The 20-year-old advanced to the quarterfinals at the ATP Challenger events in Portoroz as well as in Cordenons and now lifted his seventh Futures trophy, his third of the season.
Martínez Portero earns $3,600 in prize money as well as 25 ATP ranking points.
On Friday, Marc Giner and Jaume Pla Malfeito of Spain captured the doubles crown with a 6-4, 6-7, 10-7 win over Pedro Cachín of Argentina and Spaniard Juan Lizariturry. The final lasted one hour and 32 minutes.
