Young US-American players took both the singles and doubles titles at the $15,000 USTA National Campus Pro Tennis Classic this weekend. No. 3-seeded Sophie Chang of Havre de Grace defeated No. 6 seed Astra Sharma of Australia, 6-3, 7-6(6), in Sunday’s singles final to win her first-ever career USTA Pro Circuit singles title.
The 20-year-old sent down three aces, winning 78 per cent of her first service points to secure victory in one hour and 48 minutes. Chang also holds six USTA Pro Circuit doubles titles and is currently ranked No. 303 in the world.
In Saturday’s doubles final, the young US-American team of World No. 1 junior and 2017 junior French Open singles champion Whitney Osuigwe, 15, of Bradenton and World No. 29 junior Caty McNally, 16, of Cincinnati, won the title over the top-seeded team of Bulgaria’s Dia Evtimova and Belarus’ Ilona Kremen, 6-2, 6-3. This was Osuigwe and McNally’s first USTA Pro Circuit doubles title together. The teenagers also reached the doubles final at junior Wimbledon in 2017.
