The rivalry between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova has been fiercely intense, no more so than in Australian Open 2005 semi-final.
Williams ended up just scrapping through in the gripping semi-final, winning 2-6 7-5 8-6, saving three match points in what was an incredible battle between the pair.
“It definitely lived up to everyone’s expectations and it was a lot of fun. I am really happy to get through,” said a delighted Williams following the match.
“I am so excited to be in another final, it has been such a tough 12 months for me. I want to thank everyone for supporting me.”
In total Williams and Sharapova have played 20 times, with Williams winning 18 of those matches.
