Evan Furness of France and Daria Lopatetska from the Ukraine are among the first champions of the new ITF World Tennis Tour held in the first week of January 2019. Both players clinched the singles titles at the Kidsland Men’s and Women’s 25K tournament at the Victoria Park Tennis Courts in Hong Kong.
Furness won the M25 hard court event on Sunday. The 20-year-old Frenchman benefited from the retirement of Julian Lenz of Germany in the final trailing 5-6 after 59 minutes. By lifting his second ITF career title, Furness earns 3 ATP-Ranking points as well as 150 ITF-Ranking points.
Lopatetska, who entered the main draw with a wild card, won the W25 event. The only 15-year-old defeated Barbora Stefkova from the Czech Republic in the title match 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 27 minutes to lift her third professional trophy. Lopatetska capitalized on five of her eight break point opportunities to secure victory in one hour and 27 minutes.
The teenager made her professional debut last year in June, winning back-to-back $15,000 titles in Antalya and Baja. Lopatetska is currently ranked World No. 489.
