BERLIN, October 22, 2019

Organizers of the Grass Court Championships, to be held at the LTTC Rot-Weiß Berlin next year, announced on Tuesday that Barbara Rittner will become the tournament director of the new WTA Premier Event.

The 46-year-old former professional, who reached a career high at World No. 24 in 1993, has been the Head of Women’s Tennis at the German Tennis Federation (DTB) since 2017. Rittner was captain of the German Fed Cup team and has been working as a TV-pundit at all major tournaments in the world.

“It’s great to have a tennis tournament of this size back in Berlin, getting the chance to further strengthen the position of tennis in Germany,” Rittner stated in press release. “I am proud to take over the role as a tournament director. I am looking forward to this exciting task.”

The event is taking place from June 13 to June 21, 2020.
