PARIS, December 7, 2019 (FFT Press Release)
After establishing a merit-based system for allocating wildcards for the main draw and qualifying rounds at Roland Garros, the French Tennis Federation has decided to apply the same system for French players in the Junior tournament. This is one of the most significant changes made to the sporting aspect of the 2020 tournament.
This new system, which is based on fair play, will see two wildcards allocated for the main draw of the two Roland Garros Junior tournaments (Girls and Boys).
Set up by the French National Technical Committee, this procedure – which ties in with the federation’s “Act and Win 2020” project – is designed to encourage French players to enter the major French tournaments in the ITF World Tennis Tour Junior calendar in order to promote these competitions and the French players’ trips abroad, develop a winning and merit-based culture, and help young players to progress on the circuit.
See the procedure for allocating these wildcards below.
1. “French Junior Race”
The first wildcard will be allocated to the highest-ranked French player in the “French Junior Race” who has not been entered directly in the main draw. This race concerns the three tournaments below, which are all played on clay:
-
- Cap d’Ail (J2) – from 6th to 11th April 2020
- Istres (J2) – from 13th to 18th April 2020
- Beaulieu-sur-Mer (J1) – from 20th to 26th April 2020
Calculation:
- Only singles results are taken into account
- The number of points allocated to the players is identical to the number of points allocated on the ITF World Tennis Tour Junior (see table below)
- In the event that two or several players score the same number of points, the international prime ranking will be used to separate them (ranking in the week following Beaulieu-sur-Mer)
2 . “International Junior Race”
The second wildcard will be allocated to the highest-ranked French player in the “International Junior Race” who has not been entered directly in the main draw.
Calculation:
- All grades A, 1, 2 and 3 tournaments played on clay between 2nd January and 17th May 2020 will be taken into account
- Only singles results are taken into account
- The number of points allocated to the players is identical to the number of points allocated on the ITF World Tennis Tour Junior (see table below)
- In the event that two or several players score the same number of points, the international prime ranking will be used to separate them (ranking as of the week of 18th May)
Please note that if the same player, who has not been entered directly into the main draw, wins the “French Junior Race” and the “International Junior Race”, the second wildcard will be allocated to the second highest-ranking player in the “International Junior Race”.
