Igor Sijsling

MEERBUSCH, January 2, 2021

The 16th edition of the Kirschbaum International will be held in Meerbusch for the first time. This was announced by the organizers on Wednesday. The ITF World Tennis Tour M15 event was previously held in Kaarst and was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus outbreak. The 2021 tournament is scheduled for April 13 to 18 at the Teremeer Sports and Tennis Resort in Meerbusch situated in the west of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Former World No. 52 Igor Sijsling from the Netherlands is the tournament’s two-time defending champion. The Kirschbaum International can look back on a great history, as popular tennis cracks like Milos Raonic, Nikoloz Basilashvili, Mischa Zverev, Maximilian Marterer, Wimbledon doubles champion Philipp Petzschner and Miroslav Mecir have already competed in the indoor hard-court event.

“If we are not allowed to play shortly after the Easter holidays due to the ongoing pandemic, the Kirschbaum International will take place later this summer,” said organizer and tournament director Marc Raffel.
