Top 10 stars Matteo Berrettini of Italy and defending champion Casper Ruud from Norway will compete in this year’s Generali Open. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 250 clay-court tournament in Kitzbühel on Tuesday.

Berrettini, who will return to the tour in Stuttgart in June after being sidelined from the courts with an injury, made it to the quarterfinals in Kitzbühel in 2018 and accepted Dominic Thiem’s invitation to his “THIEMs7” tournament in 2020, where he advanced to the semi-finals.

At the Generali Open 2022, which will be held from July 23 to 30, the two will meet again in Tyrol: “We are very happy that he has joined the line-up. He’s not only a superstar and an advertising icon in his home country, but also a real crowd-pleaser here,” says tournament director Alexander Antonitsch. “We always have a lot of fans from Italy there – the Tifosi will certainly be happy about his return to Kitzbühel.”

It’s no secret that Rome semi-finalist Ruud also feels very comfortable in Kitzbühel. “Casper has always assured us that he is looking forward to coming back to Kitzbühel,” Antonitsch said and added with a smile. “Kitzbühel and Norway – that’s not just a special connection in skiing.”
