The stars of the ITF Pro Circuit will come to Swabia, Germany the upcoming week for the inaugural Metzingen Open. The ITF World Tennis Tour M15 clay-court tournament will be held from July 17 to 24 at the Tennis Club Metzingen. The city of Metzingen with about 22,000 inhabitants is situated in Reutlingen county, Baden-Württemberg, about 30 kilometres south of Stuttgart.
World No. 263 Gonzalo Lama of Chile leads the entry list. The 29-year-old South American, a winner of two ATP Challenger crowns, is bidding for his 13th title on the ITF Pro Circuit. Top favourite Lama will be joined by Hungarian youngster and two-time ITF Pro-Circuit champion Peter Fajta as well as a strong German contingent.
Former ITF World Tennis Tour World No. 1 Peter Heller, Johannes Haerteis, Tim Handel, Dominik Boehler and Oscar Moraing will try to delight their home crowd. Germany’s top-ranked teenagers Max Rehberg, Liam Gavriliedis who competed in the Grand-Slam junior events of the Australian Open as well as at Roland Garros, and Philipp Florig are also part of the line-up.
In addition to top-class tennis, the event also has a lot to offer off the court. An “Italian Night” takes place on Wednesday, July 20 and spectators are also invited to attend the “Dinner & Cocktail Evening” on July 24.
