For the fourth time in seven editions a player from Argentina will be crowned champion at the Buenos Aires Challenger. Juan Manuel Cerundolo and Camilo Ugo Carabelli will go head-to-head in Sunday’s singles final of the $53,120 clay-court event.
Carabelli showed a solid display during his 6-2, 6-1 win over Dmitry Popko from Kazakhstan in the stage of the last four on Saturday. The World No. 118, who used to be a ball boy at the Racket Club in Buenos Aires, won 64 per cent of the total points played to advance in one hour and 21 minutes.

“I was very solid throughout the match. I am very happy with my level and to play tomorrow’s final,” said Carabelli.
It will be the fourth championship match for the 23-year-old Buenos Aires native on the Challenger Tour this season. Carabelli lifted the trophies in Lima, Peru and on home soil in Tigre. He finished runner-up to Francisco Cerundolo in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
Later in the day, Cerundolo edged past fellow Argentine Mariano Navone 6-3, 7-5. The 20-year-old, who was also born in Buenos Aires, converted five of his 10 break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 41 minutes.

“I am very happy with this week and also with the match. It was difficult for me in the second set but I managed to pull it off. It’s always nice to play at home,” said Cerundolo and added about the upcoming climax. “We know each other very well, that can make things go better, or make it a very hard-fought match.”
Cerundolo is seeking his fourth ATP Challenger career crown, his first of the season. Carabelli leads the head-to-head record between the two home favourites 3-2.
Andreozzi/Duran triumph in doubles
In other action, Guido Andreozzi and Guillermo Duran defeated Roman Andres Burruchaga and Facundo Diaz Acosta 6-0, 7-5 in an all-Argentine doubles final. The encounter lasted one hour and 12 minutes.
Andreozzi and Duran captured their 10th ATP Challenger team title. They split $3,100 in prize money and collected 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
