The first round of singles action at the $53,120 Tiburon Challenger took place on Monday, with fourth-seeded US-American Ben Shelton, current NCAA singles champion, besting Roberto Quiroz of Ecuador 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(4) to move on to the next round. Shelton earned championship honors as a student at the University of Florida, where he played for the Florida Gators.

Qualifying matches concluded, with six players moving on to the main draw. They include Tiburon Challenger veteran Evan King, competing against Sam Riffice. Michael Mmoh, winner of the Tiburon Challenger in 2018, will also be back on the Tiburon Peninsula Club’s courts facing Benjamin Lock.
