Riedi Claims Back-To-Back Challenger Titles, Wins Castel Del Monte Open Andria

What a way to finish the season! Swiss youngster Leandro Riedi has captured his second consecutive title on the ATP Challenger Tour in the last two weeks. The 20-year-old Frauenfeld native won the €45,730 Castel Del Monte Open Andria held at the Palasport Andria, Italy. Riedi defeated Mikhail Kukushkin from Kazakhstan 7-6(4), 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final.

The #NextGenATP star booked his spot in the championship match with wins in the bottom half of the draw over second-seeded Frenchman Hugo Gaston, Dutch veteran Robin Haase, Russian lucky loser Eveny Karlovskiy and Vitaliy Sachko from the Ukraine.

Riedi withstood six aces and broke Kukushkin’s serve four times to secure victory in one hour and 48 minutes.

Following his maiden Challenger triumph at the HPP Open in Helsinki, Finland last week, the World No. 197 earned €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

“I feel unbelievable. It’s been an absolutely crazy two weeks in Finland and here. I loved it, it was so much fun. I have never been here. I will never forget Andria. It’s been the best two weeks of my career and I hope it’s just the beginning,” said Riedi.

“Next I will go to the Australian Open qualies and the goal is to get into the Top 100 by the end of next year.”

Cash/Patten keep winning

On Saturday, Julian Cash and Henry Patten captured the doubles title. The top-seeded Britons fought past local wild card entries Francesco Forti and Marcello Serafini 6-7(3), 6-4, 10-4 in one hour and 21 minutes.

By winning their ninth Challenger team title of the season, Cash and Patten split €2,670 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
