In the Davis Cup World Group I first round held in Mostar, the German team lived up to its favorite status and secured a place in the World Group against Bosnia and Herzegovina. On the second day of the competition, the German doubles team as well as Maximilian Marterer contributed to two additional points.

In the first match on Sunday, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz sealed an unassailable 3-0 lead for Germany. They defeated Damir Dzumhur and Mirza Basic 6-4, 6-2. Despite a last-minute change in the Bosnian doubles line-up, with Dzumhur replacing Nerman Fatic, Krawietz and Pütz remained focused and demonstrated their superiority, especially in crucial moments, sealing the victory with the first match point.

“Our goal was to win the relegation. We are delighted that we have achieved it and are back where we belong,” said Krawietz.

In the following dead rubber, Marterer made a successful debut in the German Davis Cup team by beating 18-year-old Andrej Nedic 6-1, 7-6(4).

Team captain Michael Kohlmann expressed his satisfaction with his players’ performance: “It was once again a perfect week, and it’s nice when you can reward yourself for it. There were a few critical moments, especially in the doubles and Daniel Altmaier’s singles. But we handled them confidently and can aim for success next year.”

With this victory, the German team secures a place in the Davis Cup Qualifiers in 2024. The opponent for the German team in the qualifiers has not yet been determined, but Kohlmann has high ambitions for the team. “We currently have a strong generation in Davis Cup. Hopefully, we can celebrate that with significant success in 2024,” he said.
