The Olbia Challenger, an ATP Challenger 125 tournament with a prize pool of €145,000, organized by MEF Tennis Events, was officially launched at the Olbia Municipal Library on Thursday. A hot week from October 15 to 22 will see many young tennis players and several established champions compete on the Greenset courts of the Tennis Club Terranova.

The event concludes the series of tournaments organized by MEF Tennis Events in 2023, which began in January with three tournaments in Tenerife (two ATP Challenger 75s and one ATP Challenger 100) and continued in June and September with Perugia (ATP Challenger 125), Todi (ATP Challenger 75), and Parma (WTA 125).

The entry list of the Olbia Challenger is led by Alexandre Muller of France. The World No. 80 will be joined by fellow Top 100 players Michael Mmoh from the United States and in-form Frenchman Constant Lestienne, who already lifted two trophies on the Challenger Circuit this season, winning the Golden Gate Open in Stanford last month as well as the Saint-Tropez Open last week.

Angelo Binaghi, President of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, said in a video message: “We are in a historic moment where the whole world is looking at Italy thanks to the events we organize every year. A tennis tournament is an excellent way to spread the brand of Sardinia everywhere, but it is essential that this is only the beginning of a project that acquires continuity, thanks also to the institutions.”

Matteo Berrettini’s coach, Vincenzo Santopadre, stated: “Many players like Lorenzo Sonego, Lorenzo Musetti, and even Matteo himself have gone through the ATP Challenger Tour, an essential stage for their growth as players. In this sector, I consider MEF Tennis Events an absolute guarantee. Marcello Marchesini and his team’s work is exceptional and constant, and I wish them the best for the success of this event and those to come.”
