Florian Mayer, 2013 champion of the Sparkassen Open in Braunschweig, will return to the 23rd edition of the €106,500 ATP Challenger event taking place from 2 to 9 July 2016.

“I have good memories of the tournament. Braunschweig has always been a good place for me. I feel comfortable there,” the 32-year-old from Bayreuth tells, who will appear at Germany’s biggest Challenger for the seventh time.

The former world number 18 wants to build on these decent results in Braunschweig.

“I claimed the title here in 2013, so it’s logical that I am looking forward to return,” he says.

Mayer reached the semi-finals in 2004 and 2009, losing to the the eventual champion in each year. In 2007 he finished runner-up to Oscar Hernandez from Spain and six years later he defeated Jiri Versely for the title.
