Brasília Champions 2024 Announces World Tennis Stars

The Brasília Champions 2024 announced on Tuesday the international tennis stars who will participate in the exhibition tournament, scheduled for September 27-28 at the BRB Nilson Nelson Arena.

The tournament will feature a select group of renowned tennis players, including:

  • Fernando Verdasco: The Spanish tennis star, former world No. 7, is a three-time Davis Cup champion (2008, 2009, 2011) and ATP Finals doubles winner. With 7 ATP singles titles and 8 doubles titles, Verdasco is known for his skill and experience on the international circuit.
  • Tommy Robredo: Another Spanish standout, Robredo reached No. 5 in the world rankings and is a 2004 Davis Cup champion. With 12 ATP singles titles and 5 doubles titles, Robredo brings vast experience and talent to the event.
  • Juan Cabal: The Colombian is a former world No. 1 in doubles, boasting an impressive resume, including titles at Roland-Garros, Wimbledon in doubles, and the Australian Open in mixed doubles. With 20 ATP doubles titles and a Pan American gold medal from Guadalajara, Cabal is one of the biggest names in doubles tennis.
  • João Menezes: Representing Brazil, Menezes is a US Open junior doubles runner-up and won the gold medal in singles at the Pan American Games in Lima.
  • Marcelo Demoliner: Another Brazilian, Demoliner has reached a career-high ranking of No. 34 in doubles and has a Pan American gold in doubles and silver in mixed doubles from Santiago. With 5 ATP doubles titles, he is one of Brazil’s top tennis players.
  • Gilbert Klier Jr.: The former world No. 10 in juniors from Brasília has won a bronze medal at the Youth Olympic Games and holds six professional titles, promising a high-level performance at the tournament.

The Brasília Champions Legends will feature two teams of three players each. The players will compete over two days, September 27-28, with two singles matches and one doubles match per day. The champion will be the team with the most points.

In addition to the international exhibition tournament, the Brasília Champions 2024 will offer a packed schedule starting September 19, with events and activities for tennis lovers of all ages.

Here’s the full schedule:

  • Brasília Champions Kids: From September 19-22, the Brasília stage of the National Tennis Kids Circuit, presented by BRB, will feature children aged 8 to 11.
  • Brasília Champions Wheelchair: On September 21, there will be a national wheelchair tennis exhibition featuring Paralympic athletes Ymanitu Silva, Daniel Rodrigues, Leandro Pena, and Gustavo Carneira, along with Jade Lanai and Maria Fernanda Alves.
  • Brasília Champions Festival: From September 23-25, the festival will offer tennis clinics and experiences for children and teens from the Olympic Centers of the Federal District (COPs), aiming to promote access to sports and strengthen Brasília as a tennis hub.
  • Brasília Champions Juniors: From September 26-29, the Brasília Junior Tennis Circuit, offering CBTG3 points, will gather promising young players from the capital.
  • Brasília Champions Legends: On September 27-28, an international exhibition featuring tennis legends and world-class athletes will take place. The event is one of the highlights of Brasília Champions 2024, giving fans the chance to watch some of the greatest names in the sport. The players’ names were announced on Tuesday (17th).
