Fearnly Clinches Orleans Open Title

Jacob Fearnley has clinched the title of the Co’met Orleans Open. The No. 8 seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 125 indoor hard-court event defeated No. 5 seed and home favourite Harold Mayot 6-3, 7-6(5) in Sunday’s singles final.

Fearnley fired seven aces and won 69 per cent of his first-service points. The 23-year-old Briton converted four of his six break-point opportunities to seal victory in one hour and 30 minutes.

After winning his third consecutive ATP Challenger Tour title, his second on French soil after lifting the trophy at the Open Blot Rennes, Fearnley said that he love playing in France because the crowd is amazing and loves watching tennis.

The Edinburgh native earned €20,300 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points.

Frenchmen triumph in doubles

Earlier in the day, Benjamin Bonzi and Sascha Gueymard Wayenburg captured the doubles title. The pair emerged victorious from the all-French final, beating No. 4 seeds Manuel Guinard and Gregoire Jacq 7-6(7), 4-6, 10-5 in one hour and 35 minutes.

By winning their first team title, Bonzi and Gueymard Wayenburg split €8,450 in prize money and earned 125 ATP Doubles Ranking points.

The 19th edition of the Orleans Open was held at the Arena CO’Met and offered a total prize purse of €148,625. Orleans is a historic city in north-central France, located on the banks of the Loire River. Known for its deep connection to French history, it played a key role during the Hundred Years’ War, particularly as the site where Joan of Arc famously led the French to victory in 1429.
