Three consecutive weeks of European Junior Championship action have drawn to a close, with Carla Giambelli of Italy and Yannick Alexandrescou from Romania being crowned champions of the 16 & Under event.

Giambelli’s run to the title saw her win all six of her matches in straight sets. She became the third Italian girl to conquer Europe in this age category, following Federica Bonsignori (1983) and Alice Canepa (1994).

Alexandrescou dominated all week, winning his six matches in straight sets and conceding more than four games just once, in a 6-4 6-4 semi-final win over Thilo Behrmann. The win marks his seventh singles win of the season, adding to six ITF World Tennis Tour (Juniors) titles.

A total of 146 players from 39 Tennis Europe member nations took part in the tournament. Hosted by the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP) for a second year, the event in Parma boasts a unique format, with the early rounds showcased across four of the city’s prestigious tennis clubs (TC Parma, TC President, Circolo del Castellazzo & Sporting Club Parma). From Thursday, all matches took place at the TC President.
