Roger Federer celebrated his debut at the Mercedes Cup in a spectacular way on Monday morning. The tournament’s top-seed hit a couple of balls with Tommy Haas on a mini-court at a height of 60 metres. Photos as well as a video of the “match” were made from a helicopter.
“I really enjoy to promote a city and a tournament in such a way. That’s always fun. To do it with Tommy in Germany makes it even greater. You just need to take care, but we know how to play and move,” Federer told afterwards.
“It was a nice feeling to have a hand on my racket again. It was really fun to play with such a good friend and great player like Roger is. We could also enjoy a fantastic view over the city, combined with this wonderful weather – just perfect,” said Haas.
None of the players showed any fear of heights but Federer stated that he doesn’t enjoy rides on a roller coaster.
The event took place on top of the high-rise project “Cloud 7” in Stuttgart’s district Europaviertel. With a height of 60 metres, it will be the city’s highest residential building.
