Fabio Fognini received the first wild card into the main draw of the J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad, held from 22 to 30 July 2017. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 250 event on Wednesday.

The World No. 29 from Italy will return to the Berner Oberland for the second time. In 2007, Fognini was 20 years old and lost in the final round of the qualifying to Bartolome Salva-Vidal of Spain. Ten years later, he will make his main draw debut.

Fognini will join David Goffin from Belgium, defending champion Feliciano López and Spaniard Roberto Bautista-Agut, who had already commited to play in Gstaad.
