MELBOURNE, December 15, 2018

The next two Australian Open wildcards will be decided tomorrow with the men’s and women’s Play-off finals taking place on Court 8 at Melbourne Park from 11.00 am.

The AO Play-off started on Monday 10 December with 32 Australian men and women competing in a knock-out tournament for coveted Australian Open 2019 wildcards.

No.3 seed James Duckworth (NSW) will take on South Australian Luke Saville in the men’s final, with No.5 seed Astra Sharma (WA) and [8] Kimberly Birrell (Qld) set to battle it out in the women’s final. Both winners will be awarded main draw Australian Open wildcards.

“I didn’t expect this at all. I just really wanted to put in some good matches and this is unreal – I’m just so happy with the way I’m playing,” Sharma told tennis.com.au.

“It would just be a dream come true, obviously (to win the WC). But either way, it’s good. I’m just happy how I’m playing and setting myself up long term for the Aussie summer.”

Today, Destanee Aiava (Vic) and Naiktha Bains (Qld) defeated Isabelle Wallace (Vic) and Astra Sharma (WA) in the Australian Open 2019 Play-off doubles final, earning them a doubles AO 2019 wildcard.

Tomorrow will also mark the end of December Showdown 2018. The 16/u and 12/u Australian Championship finals will be played, with the winners of the 16s taking home a wildcard into the Australian Open Junior Championships.
