The Gerry Weber Open tennis tournament in Halle is looking for a new title sponsor after the fashion manufacturer and retailer based in Westfalia filed for insolvency under its own management in January this year.

“There is a high probability that there will be a new title sponsor in 2020. Unfortunately, that’s the way it is,” tournament director Ralf Weber told German newspaper “Die Glocke”.

The stadium with retractable roof and a capacity of more than 12,000 seats is also expected to be renamed. “Our considerations point in the same direction and we’re having talks with our marketers for 2020,” said Weber.

The Gerry Weber Open is organized by the Gerry Weber Management & Event GmbH & Co. OHG and was first held in 1993. It is one of seven grass-court events on the ATP Tour calendar and was re-categorised as an ATP 500 tournament in 2015. The 2019 edition will be held from 17 to 23 June.
