France will enter a new coronavirus lockdown on Friday until at least December 1. This was announced by the country’s President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday. As a consequence, the Internationeaux de Sarreguemines, an ITF World Tennis Tour M15 event, has been cancelled mid-tournament.
“Second round matches will be finished, so that all players have the same number of points but then the tournament will come to a close. We could not continue a tournament, even a professional one, as it was organized by volunteers,” tournament director Nicolas Schwartz said on Thursday, quoted by daily regional French newspaper Le Républicain Lorrain, after a meeting with the French Tennis Federation in Sarreguemines.

The tournament was scheduled to be held from October 26 to November 1 at the venue of the AS Sarreguemines. The 32-man singles field was led by World No. 353 Baptiste Crepatte of France and World No. 371 Sandro Ehrat from Switzerland.
Sarreguemines is a commune in the Moselle department of the Grand Est administrative region in north-eastern France with about 25,000 inhabitants.
