Alexander Zverev was named Germany’s Sportsman of the Year in Baden-Baden on Sunday to crown the World No. 3’s best season of his career.

Zverev earned a 59-15 record with his most notable triumphs coming at the Tokyo Olympics, where he captured the singles gold medal, and at the Nitto ATP Finals in Torino. The 24-year-old Hamburg native led all players on the ATP Tour in 2021 with six titles, including his fourth and fifth ATP Masters 1000 victories in Madrid and Cincinnati. Zverev also lifted the trophy in Acapulco and Vienna.

“What Sascha has achieved for German tennis this year is unique. At the top of the list are of course the Olympic gold medal and the five tournament victories, but his merits go beyond these successes,” said Dietloff von Arnim, president of the German Tennis Federation (DTB).

“He has shown how important German tennis is to him. Because of his success and his appearance, more people are coming to the clubs. He is a role model for future generations of tennis.”
