WINNIPEG, August 3, 2023 (Tennis Canada Press Release)
Winnipeg’s biggest tennis event, the Winnipeg National Bank Challenger, is just around the corner, and excitement is building up as Tennis Canada announced the official player list for this year’s tournament. Part of the ATP Challenger Tour since 2016, the event will be played out of the brand-new National Bank Tennis MB Hub at West St. Paul for the first time and will be held from August 13 to 19.
Leading the field is Great Britain’s Jack Draper, currently No. 81 in the ATP rankings. The 21-year-old climbed up to a career-high rank of No. 38 earlier this season but hasn’t had the chance to play many matches, having dealt with an abdominal and shoulder injury. It will be his first event since his first-round retirement at Roland-Garros in May. Also part of the Top 100 and playing in Winnipeg is 32-year-old David Goffin of Belgium. The former World No. 7 reached the third round of Wimbledon last month and is looking to keep his momentum going in Canada.“We are thrilled to announce such a strong player field for the National Bank Tennis MB Hub at West St. Paul’s inaugural tournament,” said Ryan Borczon, Director, Professional and National Events at Tennis Canada. “With a great mix of homegrown talent, rising stars, and wily veterans, the 2023 edition of the Winnipeg National Bank Challenger promises to be an exciting week of tennis.”
As the players prepare to compete in Manitoba’s capital, the tournament committee is hard at work completing the final touches on its new, state-of-the-art facility in West St. Paul. Boasting top-notch amenities, including five courts, stadium seating on Centre Court, and a beautiful VIP section, the centre is set to provide a great home for the tennis community in Manitoba for years to come.
