The ATP Challenger Tour is back in Meerbusch, Germany for the 10th edition of the M.A.R.A. Open. Jan Choinski, second seed of the €73,000 clay-court tournament being held at the TeReMeer Tennis Complex, will take on fifth favourite Camilo Ugo Carabelli in Sunday’s singles final.

Choinski defeated Titouan Droguet of France 6-1, 6-4 in the stage of the last four on Saturday. The 27-year-old German-born Britain saved the only break point he faced and capitalized on three of his own four break-point chances to advance in one hour and 11 minutes.

Ugo Carabelli edged past Frenchman Manuel Guinard 7-6(5), 6-0. The 24-year-old Argentine broke his rival’s serve four times and won 59 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 26 minutes.

World No. 148 Choinski is bidding for his second ATP Challenger Tour career title following his maiden triumph in Campinas, Brazil last year. The 171st-ranked Carabelli could lift his fourth Challenger trophy, his first of the season.

Choinski won the only previous meeting between the two at an ITF Pro Circuit event in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic four years ago.

Frenchmen triumph in doubles

Manuel Guinard and Gregoire Jacq clinched the doubles title. The No. 3 seeds from France beat the all-Brazilian combination of Fernando Romboli and Marcelo Zorman 7-5, 7-6(3) in one hour and 40 minutes.

Guinard and Jacq split €4,250 in prize money and earned 75 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
