Top seed Federico Coria opened his title bid at the $130,000 Challenger Buenos Aires. with a hard-fought first-round win. The World No. 83 defeated local wild card entry Juan Pablo Ficovich 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3 on Tuesday.
Coria won one point more than his rival in this two hour and 28 minutes battle. Next up for the 31-year-old Argentine will be Brazilian qualifier Joao Lucas Reis, who upset Facundo Bagnis of Argentina 6-7(2), 7-5, 7-6(5) after three hours and 29 minutes, the longest encounter of the day.
