Monteiro To Face Diaz Acosta For Uruguay Open Crown

Facundo Diaz Acosta of Argentina and Brazilian veteran Thiago Monteiro will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the 22nd edition of the Uruguay Open. The $130,000 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court event is being held this week at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Fourth-seeded Diaz Acosta rallied past Gustavo Heide of Brazil 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in stage of the last four on Saturday. The 22-year-old left-hander, ranked World No. 111, capitalized on four of his 12 break-point chances to secure victory in two hours and 52 minutes.

Later in the day, Monteiro edged out Hugo Dellien of Bolivia 7-6(1), 1-6, 6-3. The 29-year-old World No. 131 sent down four aces and won 59 per cent of his first-service points to advance in two hours and 31 minutes.

Andreozzi/Duran triumph in doubles

In other action, Argentinians Guido Andreozzi and Guillermo Duran clinched the doubles title. The top-seeded pair beat second-seeded Bolivians Boris Arias and Federico Zeballos 2-6, 7-6(2), 10-8. The championship match lasted one hour and 40 minutes.

Andreozzi and Duran split $7,590 in prize money and earned 100 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
