STARNBERG, December 21, 2023
The 2024 international pro tennis season in Germany will kick off in Bavaria, as the ITF World Tennis Tour will make its debut in Cadolzburg. From January 14 to 21, 2024, the Bavarian Tennis Federation (BTV) will host the inaugural Cadolzburg Open, with a total prize purse of $15,000, as part of the DTB Internationals presented by Wilson at the Tennis-Center Schwadermühle.
The indoor tennis facility, housing a total of six carpet courts, has hosted an ITF Junior World Tennis Tour tournament for many years. With its family-friendly atmosphere and numerous opportunities for spectators, it provides ideal conditions for the new tennis event in the municipality in the Middle Franconian district of Fürth, situated about 20 kilometres west of Nürnberg. The name Cadolzburg derives from its central castle, first being mentioned in the year 1157.
Therefore, the Bavarian Tennis Association, in addition to the TennisBase Open in Oberhaching, which will once again take place in February 2024, offers another opportunity for local young players and established professionals to showcase their skills on the international stage and gather crucial ATP Ranking points.
Advantage for home favourites
Besides many international players, spectators can look forward to a strong contingent of German players vying for the tournament victory. The carpet surface at the Tennis-Center Schwadermühle offers a significant advantage for the home favourites as this surface is not commonly used in many countries. Even the current professionals from TennisBase Oberhaching have excelled on this type of court. For instance, Daniel Masur secured the title at the Eckental Challenger in 2021, while young talent Max Rehberg reached his first ATP Challenger Tour final in Ismaning in 2022.
Continuity remains a key focus for the BTV in tournament organization. Alongside the TennisBase Open and the ITF German Juniors in Bamberg, the Cadolzburg Open will also be managed by tournament director Christoph Poehlmann and his team. “After the many successful tournaments in the youth category, we are thrilled to host a world-ranking event for men for the first time in Cadolzburg. It provides an ideal platform for our German players from the second and third tiers to showcase themselves and gain international experience,” stated the deputy BTV managing director. ITF Supervisor Norbert Peick is also a familiar face at Schwadermühle, having organized the youth event alongside Poehlmann for many years.
