Gianluca Mager headlined Wednesday’s second-round action at the Challenger AAT de TCA 1 being held this week at the Tenis Club Argentino in Buenos Aires. The 29-year-old Italian knocked out Lukas Neumayer of Austria, top seed of the $41,000 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court event, 3-6, 7-6(7), 6-4.
Mager withstood 11 aces and broke his rival’s serve three times to secure victory in two hours and 50 minutes. The World No. 335 will next take on Joao Fonseca from Brazil. The 17-year-old defeated Murkel Dellien of Bolivia 7-5, 6-4 in one hour and 33 minutes to reach his third Challenger career quarterfinal.

“I have just made the quarterfinals and I am so happy with this week and my first professional tournament of the year. Let’s keep going,” Fonseca stated afterwards.
In other action, fourth-seeded US-American Tristan Boyer battled past Hernan Casanova of Argentina 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in two hours and 20 minutes and will face Dmitry Popko next. The qualifier from Kazakhstan eliminated German Timo Stodder 7-6(7), 6-4. The encounter lasted two hours and three minutes.
