Roman Andres Burruchaga experienced an unforgettable night at the Cordoba Open on Tuesday. The World No. 170 from Argentina secured his first tour-level main draw match win, edging out his compatriot and former top-10 player Diego Schwartzman 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
In front of an enthusiastic crowd on Cancha Central of the Polo Deportivo Kempex, including his father Jorge Luis, Burruchaga converted six of his 10 break-point opportunities and won 55 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in two hours and 18 minutes.

“I’m really happy with my victory here in Cordoba,” Burruchaga said. “It was a tough match against a great player like Diego. I was a little bit nervous at the end of the match but fortunately I won.”
The 22-year-old Buenos Aires native, who battled his way through the qualifying of the ATP Tour 250 clay-court event, will next take on No. 7 seed Yannick Hanfmann.
