CORDOBA/STARNBERG, February 9, 2024

Only one second-round match of the Cordoba Open could be completed on a rain-affected Thursday at the Polo Deportivo Kempes. Luciano Darderi knocked off fourth-seeded Austrian Sebastian Ofner 6-0, 6-3.

The 21-year-old Italian qualifier saved the only break point he faced and converted four of his own seven break-point chances to advance in one hour and four minutes.

“I am very happy, last year I also had a great tournament here. I expected a tough match because I have been preparing mentally very well. The conditions favored me and I believe I have never been as solid in the last two years,” said Darderi, who was born in Villa Gesell, a seaside resort city situated in the Province of Buenos Aires.

Darderi will take on either No. 7 seed Yannick Hanfmann of Germany of Argentine qualifier Roman Andres Burruchaga in the quarterfinals of the ATP Tour 250 clay-court event. Their match was suspended due to bad weather with Burrachaga leading 2-1 in the final set.
