Besides the ATP Tour tournament in Delray Beach, the hard-court swing in Florida is also in full action on the ITF World Tennis Tour. Dmitry Popko captured the title of the City of Sunrise Pro Tennis Classic held on clay at the Sunrise Tennis Club.
Situated in the southeastern part of the Sunshine State, Sunrise is known for its diverse population, thriving economy, and abundant recreational opportunities.
The city with about 100,000 inhabitants earned its name from its stunning sunrise views over the Florida Everglades, offering residents and visitors alike breathtaking natural beauty to start their day. With its convenient location near major highways and airports, Sunrise serves as a gateway to the wider South Florida region, including popular destinations like Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
Popko defeats Rybakov
Popko, No. 2 seed of the ITF World Tennis Tour M15 event, beat local wild card entry and No. 6 seed Alexander Rybakov 7-5, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final. The 27-year-old from Kazakhstan, who dropped two sets en-route to the championship, sent down three aces, won 73 per cent of his first-service points and broke Rybakov’s serve five times to secure victory in one hour and 55 minutes.
“Thanks to my coach and everyone, who came out watching today. It was a pleasure to win this second title,” Popko said during the on-court ceremony. The World No. 339 was also successful in Sunrise back in 2019. Popko caputred his 22nd career title on the Pro Circuit.
