Charleston Open Preliminary Main Draw Is Filled With Champion Quality

The WTA 500 Credit One Charleston Open, the largest women’s-only pro tournament in North America, has released its preliminary main draw player field for this year’s event, March 30 – April 7, on the green clay of Daniel Island in Charleston, S.C.

The tournament, which is the clay season kick-off on the Hologic WTA Tour and was recently named WTA 500 Tournament of the Year for the second consecutive season, currently features five Grand Slam champions, five past Charleston titlists and four Top 10 players.

Four additional players will join the main draw via wild card entry, to be announced at a later date. To round out the field, six players will earn main-draw entry via qualifying beginning March 30.

This year’s Credit One Charleston Open field is headlined by World No. 5 and 2023 Montreal champion Jessica Pegula of the United States; World No. 6, three-time Grand Slam finalist and 2023 Charleston champion Ons Jabeur of Tunisia; World No. 9 and 2023 Guadalajara champion Maria Sakkari of Greece; and World No. 10 and 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia.

Other past Grand Slam champions entered include: Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic, and Sofia Kenin and Sloane Stephens, both of the United States.

Joining defending champion Jabeur are past Charleston champions Stephens (2016), Daria Kasatkina of Russia (2017), Madison Keys of the United States (2019), and Veronika Kudermetova of Russia (2021).

Fan favorites Elina Svitolina of Ukraine, Leylah Fernandez of Canada and Paula Badosa of Spain will also be competing. Additionally, there are nine American competitors in the preliminary field. Besides, Pegula, Keys, Stephens and Kenin, there’s 2024 Hobart champion Emma Navarro, Caroline Dolehide, Danielle Collins, Amanda Anisimova and Ashlyn Krueger.
