Gustavo Heide captured his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour by lifting the trophy of the inaugural Paraguay Open in Asuncion, the capital city of Paraguay. The 22-year-old emerged victorious from Sunday’s all-Brazilian singles final with 17-year-old former Junior World No. 1 Joao Fonseca, winning an epic battle 7-5, 6-7(6), 6-1.
Heide, No. 8 seed of the $82,000 clay-court event, advanced to the championship match with wins in the top half of the draw over Argentine qualifier Valerio Aboian, Brazilian Pedro Sakamoto, Alexander Weis of Italy and top seed Juan Pablo Varillas of Peru.
In front of an electric crowd at the Club Internacional De Tenis, the World No. 225 struck eight aces and won 71 per cent of his first-service points. Heide broke Fonseca seven times to seal victory in three hours and 15 minutes.

Following six title wins on the ITF World Tennis Tour, Heide celebrated his first triumph at Challenger level. The former Junior World No. 16 from Sao Paulo earned $11,200 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points.
Arias/Zeballos take doubles title
On Sunday, Boris Arias and Federico Zeballos claimed the doubles title. The top seeds from Bolivia beat Peruvian Gonzalo Bueno and Alvaro Guillen Meza of Ecuador 6-2, 6-2 in 56 minutes.
By winning their seventh team title on the Challenger Tour, their first of the season, Arias and Zeballos split $4,665 in prize money and collected 75 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
