Shelton, Tiafoe among top seeds in Houston
US-American Ben Shelton leads the way at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston alongside defending champion Frances Tiafoe and Argentines Francisco Cerundolo and Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
Shelton, 21, enters Houston as the No. 1 seed at an ATP Tour event for the second time this season. A 2023 U.S. Open semifinalist, Shelton will look to follow in the footsteps of his father, Bryan, who himself was a River Oaks champion in 1992.
Tiafoe, 26, returns to Houston where he will attempt to become the first player to win back-to-back titles at River Oaks since American Steve Johnson in 2017-2018. Last year, Tiafoe defeated Etcheverry in the final in straight sets to claim his second ATP Tour career title.
