Marco Trungelliti caused the upset of the day at Roland Garros downing Geneva Open runner-up and world number 11 Marin Cilic 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. The 26-year-old Argentine, who is currently ranked on a career high 167th position, appeared in his only second main draw of a Grand Slam tournament, following the Australian Open in January, where he lost to Grigor Dimitrov in the second round. He reached the quarterfinal at the Rome Garden Challenger and has seven ITF Future career title under his belt.

“It was a good match. I was very solid in the beginning. When I broke him for the first time, I realized that I will have my chance today, as his service is very strong. I was very relaxed on court today,” Trungelliti was happy.

“I was usually traveling alone. Since Australia it has become different. We made different plans with my team, so that my coach is able to join me now. This is very special.”

Andy Murray has come to Paris on a winning streak following his victory at the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome but had problems to maintain his good form at the beginning of his opening match on Philippe Chatrier court against Czech veteran Radek Stepanek, who battled through the qualification.

The British world number two was two sets down before he started to fight back. Stepanek led 6-3, 6-3 but then had to wait for 10 games to get back on the board in the fourth game of the fourth set. The match was suspended due to darkness with Stepanek leading 6-3, 6-3, 0-6, 2-4. The 37-year-old is seeking to become the oldest man to win a match at Roland Garros since Jimmy Connors in 1991. Play resumes on Tuesday as second match on Philippe Chatrier.
