HALLE/WESTPHALIA, April 25, 2024
Visitors to the 31st TERRA WORTMANN OPEN will not have to miss out on entertaining top-level tennis this year as the ATP 500 grass-court tournament kicks off in Halle. On June 16, 2024, Mischa Zverev will take to Court 1 for an exhibition match against fan favorite and grass-court specialist Dustin Brown – and spectators can enjoy this match for free.
The 39-year-old German-Jamaican Brown is currently trying to return to the professional tour after battling persistent injuries in doubles. He achieved significant success on grass courts, notably defeating Spain’s superstar Rafael Nadal in Halle in 2014 and repeating this feat in the second round of Wimbledon in 2015. Tournament director and managing partner of OWL ARENA, Ralf Weber, explains why Brown is the perfect player for an entertaining match: “Dustin brings absolute playfulness and spectacle to the court. With him, you can always expect the impossible.”
Brown’s opponent is Mischa Zverev, brother and manager of Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, and also a successful tennis professional. The 36-year-old left-hander reached a career-high ranking of World No. 25 in 2017, reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open with his relentless serve-and-volley game, defeating giants like John Isner and the then top-seeded Andy Murray. Zverev, born in Moscow, won his only ATP Tour title on grass in Eastbourne in 2018. “I always look forward to being a guest in Halle and especially to being back on the court here. It’s a tournament that we Zverevs always enjoy as a whole family,” said Mischa Zverev.
The showmatch is not the only highlight of the opening weekend. “We have put together a great program for the whole family for the first weekend,” explains tournament director Ralf Weber. Visitors can stroll through the tournament grounds on Saturday (June 15) and Sunday (June 16) with free admission, enjoying various culinary delights and a diverse shopping experience.
