The top-seeds in the men’s draw found their way into the second round of the French Open on Tuesday.

World number one Novak Djokovic eased past Yen-Hsun Lu, winning 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 in one hour and 30 minutes. The 29-year-old from Serbia lost his serve only once and converted seven of his own 14 break point chances.

“Well, second and third set were really good. I thought I found my rhythm. First set, you know, was up and down. But I’ll take the positives out of it, and I’m hoping I can progress as the tournament goes on,” Djokovic told facing Steve Darcis next.

“He’s been around the tour for many years. He had a couple of big wins, I think Nadal in Wimbledon a couple of years ago. Generally, I think he prefers playing on quicker surfaces, because he’s very talented, has very quick hands, very good slice and a good serve.  I haven’t seen him play much on clay. Gonna have to do a little bit of homework there, and then hoping I can prepare myself well.”

Djokovic also had a few words on Nick Kyrgios, who received a code violation for yelling “towel” at one of the ball boys on Sunday and in the subsequent conversation he had with the match umpire he referenced to the world number one’s incident from Rome a couple of weeks ago.

“What can I say? It’s his choice that he wants to bring it out there. I don’t know what he has done. I don’t know the nature of his gestures on the court and why he got a code violation, whether or not it was only for the towel or maybe something before that happened. I’m not getting into it. It’s completely his choice what he’s going to do about that. So, by mentioning my name, I don’t think it was necessary, but again, I’ve got to respect his choice,” Djokovic said.

Second seed Andy Murray had to complete his match from Monday evening, which was suspended due to darkness. The Scot completed his comeback against Radek Stepanek to celebrate a 3-6, 3-6 6-0, 6-3 7-5 win in three hours and 41 minutes.

“It was obviously an extremely difficult match, very tricky, challenging. Today was pretty stressful. Kind of an hour and a half I think we were on the court, something like that but it’s never easy playing a match over two days. Especially when it ended up kind of being just a one-set shootout really in the end, with him always ahead and starting serving. I was having chances and not getting them. Then I was always having to play from behind. So it was very tough,” Murray analyzed his first round encounter over two days. He will take on Mathias Bourgue next.

The tournament’s number four and leading performer in the French Open history Rafael Nadal cruised past Sam Groth, winning 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 to open his bid for a 10th Roland Garros title. The 29-year-old Spaniard didn’t face a break point in the one hour and 20 minutes encounter.

“It’s obvious that it was a good start for me. The most important thing that I had to do today I did well. This was the return and then I was playing with not many mistakes. I think it’s obvious that the opponent plays better in faster surfaces. But in general I think I played a solid match,” Nadal was pleased with his performance.

“It was a fast match, but fortunately I managed to break him very quickly. It was important because against such an opponent it’s not easy to take his serve. He wanted to put pressure upon my shoulders. It was difficult for me to break him, but for him it was also difficult to break me. So I had to maintain some pressure. I managed to concentrate myself very well,” told Nadal, who will play Facundo Bagnis next.
